Rinker to Speak at IVCC Convocation

Dr. Caitlin Rinker, a partner at Novak Rinker Veterinary Clinic in Ottawa, will speak at Illinois Valley Community College’s 11th annual New Student Convocation Aug. 14. She completed veterinary school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2017 and was selected from her graduating class of 75 to be one of three student speakers at commencement.

After 77 years, the former pharmacy building that also became known for its Halloween costumes, has a new look and a new use as neighboring Lakeview Veterinary Clinic has expanded its practice into the building for a cat-only annex. “It’s very quiet,” said Tom Bach, a veterinarian and co-owner of the practice. “Especially when you’re not feeling well you don’t need that extra salt-in-the-wound of a barking dog.” Bach grew up in Fox Point north of Milwaukee and graduated from UW-Madison and its School of Veterinary Medicine.

When veterinarians and friends Judy Batker, Laura Anderson, and Stephanie Miesen decided to leave a more generalized small animal veterinary practice in January 2017 to focus exclusively on horses, they were following their passions. For years, the colleagues had worked together at Country View Veterinary Service, an Oregon business Batker helped launch in 1999, until they started Country View Equine Clinic — an entirely separate operation — next door. The Midwest Horse Fair has long been and continues to be an important aspect of Stephanie Miesen’s life. One of the veterinarians-on-call at this year’s Horse Fair, Miesen’s history with the event stretches back to when she was 10 years old to the time she and her father first took in the fair. Since that first visit, going to the fair has become a tradition for the two.
