We study the molecular mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis, bacterial signaling and stress response, gut bacterial physiology, and the interactions between bacterial pathogens with the gut microbial communities. Our model bacteria include the intracellular pathogen Listeria monocytogenes and the human gut symbiont Bacteroides species. We take a multi-disciplinary approach combining protein chemistry, bacterial genetics, immunology, and next-generation sequencing technologies
