Dr. Alvarez is currently interested in research on student empowered & case-based education, the advancement of clinical teaching and interprofessional education through a community-based clinic, and communication strategies surrounding clinical nutrition.


Dr. Alvarez has been the Department of Medical Science’s Primary Care Section Head since 2013. In the years following her appointment to section head, she became a member of the departments Core Competency Task Force, Selective Task Force, Faculty Student Liaison Committee, and Academic Planning Council. Additionally, she is a co-coordinator for several of the department’s courses and the curriculum director for the Department’s WisCARES program.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Alvarez's clinical interests include primary care (specifically preventative care, life-long care, and chronic disease management), access to care medicine, communication, self-care, DEI skills training, and euthanasia training.
