Leading, Learning, and Loving: A Community Mural

This mural, a portion of which is seen above, encompasses many of the various aspects and identities of the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) and its students, faculty, staff, and clinicians. The work was commissioned for the Iverson Bell Midwest Regional Diversity Summit in May 2022, which was hosted by the school. Artist Tia Richardson, based out of Milwaukee, led a series of collaborative design workshops with SVM faculty, staff, and students which inspired the final piece. Members of the SVM community and Iverson Bell participants also helped paint the initial stages of the mural. We invite you to visit the mural, in the Renck Learning Center in the Veterinary Medicine Building, and explore the many stories told within it.

The title of this mural perfectly summarizes the motivations and values of the school. The SVM and those affiliated are leaders in their respective fields – whether it be on campus, across the state, or around the world. We are constantly striving for learning and it is what ties us all together. Our love of animals, knowledge, and each other is what pushes us forward to create a more inclusive future for all.
