Dr. Miller's principal research interests are the regulation of intraocular pressure in both health and glaucoma; also the ocular manifestations of systemic diseases.
His primary research emphasis has been to standardize methods of determining intraocular pressure (tonometry) and to elucidate the mechanisms by which glaucoma occurs in the dog, specifically as to why the drainage closes in canine primary angle-closure glaucoma. Additionally, he has an interest in clinically applicable methods of maintaining vision in dogs with glaucoma.
In the area of ocular manifestations of systemic diseases, Dr. Miller has characterized feline blastomycosis, the effects of hypothyroidism on the canine eye, performed a clinical study of the effects of radiation therapy on the canine eye in dogs with spontaneously occurring nasal tumors, and is attempting to characterize some of the clinically significant biochemical features of Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome in dogs.

Comparative ophthalmology in the third year of the professional curriculum and the clinical rotation in ophthalmology for senior students; continuing education for private practitioners and resident-level training. Dr. Miller also has edited the opthalmology section fo the five-minute veterinary consult and has written over 15 book chapters.

Medical and surgical ophthalmology of all veterinary species with a special interest in glaucoma and ocular manifestations of systemic diseases.
