Welcome to the Veterinary Parasitology web site at the
School of Veterinary Medicine,
University of Wisconsin, Madison. The Veterinary Parasitology
course is intended to familiarize you with the essential facts and concepts of
veterinary parasitology. Emphasis is placed on diagnosis, pathogenesis and
management of parasitic infections. The biology of parasites of major veterinary
importance will be stressed to impart the understanding necessary for control of
parasitism.

In the lecture portion of this
course you will be introduced to a wide variety of parasite species which are of
regional, national or international importance to veterinary medical practice.
However, primary emphasis will be placed on those of regional or national
significance (that is, those which you are most likely to encounter in a
practice within the US). The purpose of the lab is to highlight and expand on
important parasites presented in lectures, especially identification and
diagnostics. As a general rule, you will be responsible for all material given
in lectures and labs.
