Special Services

The Johne's Service Center provides a variety of specialized microbiological services for analysis of M. paratuberculosis strains, and evaluation of diagnostic tests and treatments for the infection. Tests currently offered are:

Identification of mycobacteria by genetic probes and HPLC analysis of mycolic acids
Antimicrobial susceptibility testing of new isolates against standard antimicrobials
Screening of new chemical compounds against standard strains of M. paratuberculosis
Efficacy testing of new drugs against M. paratuberculosis in animal infection models
Evaluation of new diagnostic tests for Johne's disease

Tests under development are:

DNA finger printing of M. paratuberculosis isolates
