


Special Services
The Johne's Service Center provides a variety of specialized microbiological services for analysis
of M. paratuberculosis strains, and evaluation of diagnostic tests and treatments for the infection.
Tests currently offered are:
- Identification of mycobacteria by genetic probes and HPLC analysis of mycolic acids
- Antimicrobial susceptibility testing of new isolates against standard antimicrobials
- Screening of new chemical compounds against standard strains of M. paratuberculosis
- Efficacy testing of new drugs against M. paratuberculosis in animal infection models
- Evaluation of new diagnostic tests for Johne's disease
Tests under development are:
- DNA finger printing of M. paratuberculosis isolates
