


Biological Specimens
The Johne's Service Center provides cultures of M. paratuberculosis from various sources and
biological samples from infected animals to other research centers.
Examples of the kinds of samples available are:
- Isolates of M. paratuberculosis
- The culture collection at the Center has over 250 different isolates of M. paratuberculosis from domesticated and wild animals from different herds and geographic locations.
- Fecal samples from infected animals, known to contain M. paratuberculosis
- Serum samples from naturally and experimentally infected individual animals
- Large volumes of pooled sera with high levels of antibodies to M. paratuberculosis for use as controls in standardization of diagnostic assays
