Colonies on Media without Tween
Colonies of M. paratuberculosis grown on Middlebrook agar media without Tween are rough in
appearance. Tween 80 is a surfactant commonly used in culture media to accelerate the growth
of mycobacteria. For M. paratuberculosis, Tween 80 can alter the colonial and cellular
morphology.
