- The International Association for Paratuberculosis, Inc. was founded January, 1989. The
association is a non-profit organization devoted to the advancement of knowledge and
scientific achievement toward the eradication of paratuberculosis in domestic livestock
and other species affected by Mycobacterium paratuberculosis. The primary
functions of the Association are:
- to further the work of scientists studying paratuberculosis
- to facilitate communication and cooperation among scientists
- to bridge the gap between basic scientists and clinicians
- to foster scientific freedom and responsibility
- to improve the effectiveness of scientific achievement in the promotion of animal and
human health
- to advance education in paratuberculosis, encouraging new researchers to study this
disease
- to increase public understanding, awareness, and appreciation of the importance of
diseases caused by M. paratuberculosis.
Membership is open to everyone. As of January 1997 there were 175
members from 24 countries. Annual dues are $50 per year (payment by credit card accepted).
Members receive biannual issues of the Paratuberculosis Newsletter, discounts on
Association publications (click here for sources of print information about Johne's
disease), and discounted registration fees for each International Colloquium (click here
for additional information about the next international colloquium on paratuberculosis).
- The Governing Board is constituted by the Officers and Board of Directors. The Board of
Directors represents all countries with five or more members with an additional
representative for each additional 25 Association members. Elections are held at each
international colloquium. The present officers and Board of Directors were elected at the Fifth International

The purpose of the Sixth
International Colloquium on Paratuberculosis will be to exchange information and
examine current avenues of research on methods of diagnosis, prevention, and control of
paratuberculosis. A goal of the meeting is to provide new insights into the basic biology
of M. paratuberculosis and the pathogenesis and immunology of infections caused
by this organism. The meeting program will have presentations from an array of disciplines
by experts from many different countries.
