The Non-Enteric Rods: MacConkey agar test

Some of the Chart 5 organisms are able to grow on MacConkey agar, specifically Aeromonas, Bordetella, and Pseudomonas. These three bacteria do not ferment lactose, so they produce tan colonies, as shown on this slide.

The remainder of the Chart 5 organisms will not grow on MacConkey agar.
