Unlike the grape-like cluster arrangement of
Staphylococcus,
Gram-positive
Streptococcus sp. generally occur in chains of 6 or
more cells. Chain formation by
Streptococcus species is often more
evident in clinical specimens than in colonies grown on blood agar.
