Streptococcus: CAMP test
The CAMP test is used to identify
Streptococcus agalactiae, one of the most important causes
of mastitis in dairy cattle. When performed on streptococci isolated from the udder of cattle, only
Streptococcus agalactiae will give the characteristic arrow head hemolysis at the junction
of the
Staphylococcus aureus and
Streptococcus agalactiae streaks.
On this slide, the
Staphylococcus aureus streak runs vertically, and the horizontal
streak on the left is CAMP positive -
Streptoccus agalactiae. Note the arrowhead shaped
area of hemolysis. The horozontal streak on the right is a CAMP negative streptococcal species.
