Clinical Rotations - Herd Health

Herd Veterinarian for the SVM-UW Charmany Teaching Herd

Goal:

Provide an opportunity for students to be responsible for the health of the Teaching Herd by making clinical decisions on treatment/monitoring, and implementing those decisions by themselves or through the supervision of pre-clinical students.

Learn to:

bulletSupervise and/or implement sick cow diagnostics, examinations, (TPR/Physicals) and monitoring
bulletSupervise and/or implement treatment protocols (mastitis, sick cow)
bulletOrganize health records (computer, herd book entries, milker communication notes, cow treatment boards) for ongoing clinical work
bulletSupervise and/or implement and follow-up all calvings and protocols including milk fever, ketosis, fresh cow, and calf health
bulletSupervise and/or implement preventive management activities including vaccinations and reproductive synchronization programs
