Our Mission

Our teaching mission is to broaden the education of the veterinary students interested in pursuing food animal practice, particularly dairy, so that they can identify and solve herd health management problems.

Our research programs are focused on the major health and welfare problems facing the dairy and swine industry.  Our Cow Comfort and Well-being Program covers areas such as stall design, lameness in dairy cows, air hygiene and respiratory health, heat stress and feeding behavior, transition cow behavior and metabolic requirements.  In addition, we have programs concerned with mechanisms of SARA, ketosis, and Salmonella transmission.
