Setting Up the HPDuplex Printer on a Macintosh

  1. Go to the share folder on your desktop and open it.
  2. Then open the Drivers folder. Inside the drivers folder is a folder called Mac. Open this folder and copy the file HP LaserJet 4050 Series to your desktop.
  3. Go to your local hard drive and find the System Folder.
  4. Open the System Folder and find the Extensions Folder. Then locate the Printer
  5. Descriptions folder. Move the file that you placed on your desktop to the Printer Descriptions folder.

  6. Close the folders you opened.
  7.

  8. Go to Chooser and select Laserwriter 8 on the left-hand side. In the right-hand box, scroll down and highlight HPDuplex. Click Setup (or Create).

This will bring up the PPD dialog box.

If the current printer description file selected doesn’t say HP Laserjet 4050 Series, click on Select PPD… to find the proper PPD file. If it does match, click OK and close Chooser.

Highlight the HPDuplex icon on your desktop and then go to the menu bar at the top of your screen and select Printing, Change Setup.  In the Change box select Duplex Unit and in the To box select installed.  Then select Total Memory in the Change box and set it to 28-35 MB.

The printer is now setup. You select it and print to it the same way you would for your other printers. A few options you may want to check out are duplex printing and print quality.

Duplex printing

Under the HPDuplex printer options there is a Layout tab which allows you to print on both sides of the page (a.k.a. duplex printing).

Print Quality

Under the Resolution Options Tab, you can select the Print Quality. The default is FastRes 1200 dpi.
