Equine conformation evaluates a horse's bone structure, musculature, and body proportions. Ideal conformation is desirable not
because it is attractive, but because it is proven to result in a long athletic career. Undesirable conformation can limit the ability to
perform a specific task and also can reduce durability. Ninety-percent of conformation is the result of bone structure. Good conformation
results in bio-mechanical efficiency to move well, carry weight and stay sound. Ideal conformation is dependent on the athletic
discipline. A horse with poor form for a Grand Prix show jumper could have excellent conformation for a World Champion cutting horse,
or to be a champion draft horse. There are very few flawless horses, and not everyone has the same vision of perfection. Every horse has
good and bad points of its conformation and many horses (including Olympic caliber horses) excel even with conformation faults.
Attend this program to expel the myths of "ideal conformation" and to
receive step by step analysis of conformation for selecting breeding
stock and potential athletes for a variety of equine disciplines.
Our afternoon live demos will show practical ways to compute proportions and angles that anyone can do at home with their own horses.
You will also be shown how to evaluate gaits for athleticism, elasticity and self-carriage with a live horse.
We will end our day with a jumping exhibition by international horse trainer, Silvia Geyer of KD Trakehners / KD Jumpers.
