My project in the Watters lab deals with understanding the molecular mechanisms of microglial cell inflammatory inhibition by the antibiotic minocycline. Minocycline is presently being used in clinical trials to treat several types of neurodegenerative diseases where excessive microglial cell activation is believed to be a cause. However, the mechanisms by which it does this are poorly understood.
