The School of Veterinary Medicine's Dr. Yoshihiro Kawaoka is the principal investigator on a $9.5 million grant to the University of Wisconsin-Madison from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The grant supports a study to identify virus mutations that would serve as early warnings of potential pandemic influenza viruses.
