MADISON Dr. Ian Duncan, a professor of neurology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine, was one of seven individuals named as a 2009 Fellow of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters on October 11, 2009. The Fellow designation represents the highest level of recognition conferred by the Academy.
Fellows are elected for a high level of accomplishment in their fields as well as a lifelong commitment to intellectual discourse.
Dr. Duncan is one of the world's leading scientists in the application of stem cell research to the treatment of neurological diseases. His work holds promise for the possible cure of several diseases, especially multiple sclerosis and certain childhood genetic disorders of myelin.
He has been recognized as an inspiring public educator in the field of regenerative medicine, making extraordinary efforts, through public presentations across Wisconsin, to educate the public on the promise of stem cell research in treating incurable neurological diseases.
Most recently, he was invited to the University of Glasgow's School of Veterinary Medicine to present the prestigious Sir William Weipers Memorial Lecture.
