MADISON Animal-lovers are sure to appreciate a gift that benefits companion animal health rather than clutters their household with trinkets they don't need, plus has someone else do the addressing and mailing for them!

For a suggested $10.00 donation per card, the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine will send the donor's choice of recipients a holiday greeting card which notes that proceeds benefit sustained excellence at the school.

Recipients receive a full-color animal artwork card with a message stating that a donation was made in their name to the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Each year, a different artist donates the artwork for this card. This year's oil painting, "Advice for Ladybug," was donated by Dr. Gayle Leith, a 1988 graduate of the UW School of Veterinary Medicine who enjoys painting as a hobby. Her painting features a young girl at a horse show.

"I love the kids and their ponies," says Dr. Leith, who enjoys painting from random photos she has taken at horse shows. "I'm really glad that this painting can help support the school."

Dr. Leith has also supported the school by sponsoring the Gayle Leith and Arizona Equine Awards for veterinary medical students. She practices equine medicine in Gilbert, Arizona.

The cards make ideal holiday gifts for veterinarians, friends, family, people's pets, or for anyone who loves animals.

New this year are options to purchase blank cards in sets of 10 or to order dog or cat art images from previous years while supplies last.
