Alumni Advisory Board Update – Spring 2012

The School of Veterinary Medicine’s Alumni Advisory Board is an informal board that meets via teleconference a couple of times a year.  The purpose of the board is to enhance the school’s support of and relationship with alumni by providing input on alumni-related activities and communications.  Membership on the advisory board is open to interested alumni.

In the summer of 2012, the Alumni Advisory Board asked – via a survey – the School of Veterinary Medicine alumni what the alumni advisory board should focus on.  As a result, the board has focused on two priorities.

The first is to provide alumni with opportunities to mentor students and network with other alumni.  As a result, the school created a networking database for alumni.  This database will also allow the school to serve animal clients of the State of Wisconsin and beyond. Occasionally animal owners call the school asking for a UW-trained veterinarian in their area. With your permission, the school will provide potential clients with business information for University of Wisconsin DVM graduates who “match” what the client needs based on the information in the database.  (Consider it free advertising!)  To get more information about the database and to get started, please click here or go on the portal and database link to the right.

The second priority is social – keeping classmates connected to each other and the school.  In 2012 the board will be working to identify class representatives who can help with these goals.  In addition, the school’s new alumni web page offers alumni a one stop site to keep up to date on school news, clinical trials, research advancements and classmate news.  It also allows alumni the ability to interact with one another.
