Great People Scholarship

Since its first class in 1987, the UW School of Veterinary Medicine has graduated over 1,900 veterinarians. As one of only 28 veterinary schools in the United States, we stand at the forefront of an elite field, consistently ranked among the top five veterinary schools in the nation. The students who are drawn to the UW School of Veterinary Medicine share a common dedication to animals, and come to uncover new methods of care, pursue research, and pass their knowledge on to others.

The four-year professional veterinary medical degree program provides an excellent education for these students, but it comes at a cost. At graduation, average student debt loads are over $110,000, yet starting salaries are relatively modest.

Scholarships make a real difference to students.

Established by the University of Wisconsin Foundation, the Great People Scholarship program not only supports students at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, but also makes your gift dollars go further. The Great People Scholarship program provides a match for gifts to these need-based aid funds. Gifts that are unrestricted, which will support undergraduates, are matched $1 for every $1 given. Gifts that are given to a specific school, such as the School of Veterinary Medicine, are matched 50 cents to the $1, once the endowment has reached a minimum threshold.

By supporting the School of Veterinary Medicine’s Great People Scholarship, you will make a difference for students who chose the veterinary medicine profession not because of financial reward, but because of their compassion and dedication to animal health.

The UW School of Veterinary Medicine has not yet received the $25,000 threshold to qualify for the Great People match, though we are getting close. We hope you will consider making a gift to the GP Scholarship program. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference.
