Timeline
- During the past years, families who came to the
UW School of Veterinary Medicine agreed to
treat their dogs' nasal tumors with yet untested
TomoTherapy.
- TomoTherapy was so successful that the school
realized its potential for the treatment of even
more pets. Generous gifts from multiple donors
allowed the school to move forward with plans
for the new Radiation Therapy Clinic.
- A bill to allow construction for a Radiation Therapy Clinic was introduced into the
legislature by Rep. Jake Hines and Senator Fred
Risser. While construction will be privately
funded, legislative needed to approve of the
project to move forward.
- In March 2008, Governor Jim Doyle signed the
bill that approves construction of a TomoTherapy
facility to the School of Veterinary Medicine
building.
- In 2008, the school received a $5 million estate
gift from Barbara A. Suran, which will fund an
oncology chair and support the chair's research
efforts.
- Now, bringing the technology full circle, the
University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary
Medicine will be the first veterinary hospital
to use this state of the art technology to benefit
animal health. In January 2011, we treated our first patient.
